Industry Leader MakerBot Teams Up with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, GE FirstBuild and Roche to Bring 3D Printing Innovation Into Classrooms and Beyond

As part of the Day of Making on June 18, MakerBot is celebrating its unique programs that bring innovation and Making to the forefront. Last year, MakerBot embarked on a mission through its MakerBot® Academy program, DonorsChoose.org and America Makes, to put a MakerBot Replicator® Desktop 3D Printer in every school in America. MakerBot was inspired by the President’s commitment to keep America at the forefront of the Next industrial Revolution and believes strongly that a way to achieve this is to provide students of today the technology needed for the jobs of tomorrow. Also joining the call to bring MakerBot Replicator 3D Printers into the classroom is the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) supported by Roche. ASCP and Roche see the benefit of providing access to MakerBot 3D printers in the classroom to support STEM education that builds on existing programs that attract youth to the medical laboratory profession and help create a laboratory workforce for the future through the ASCP-Roche Career Ambassador program.

As part of this commitment to innovation, MakerBot is proud to have recently teamed up with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and its Imagine Mars Project in co-sponsoring a "Mars Base Challenge," which encouraged 3D designers to create concepts for a habitat for future human explorers and share them on MakerBot's Thingiverse.com website. The initial challenge served as a prototype for a longer-term effort between MakerBot Academy and JPL to spark design thinking and problem solving in STEM for youth in U.S. public schools.

MakerBot and GE FirstBuild are also excited to announce a co-creation platform and community for the design and development of 3D printing projects that improve user experiences with GE Appliances.
